At 1519 hrs units with the 2nd Battalion Fire Chief were alerted for a reported house on fire at 2738 Knox Terrace SE. First arriving units found a 3 Story semi-detached dwelling with smoke from the front on all floors and fire in the rear. Interior crews of Engine 32, Truck 16 and Rescue Squad 3 found fire on the third floor with extension into the cockloft. Due to the weather conditions and the amount of fire Command 2 requested a 2nd alarm stage at Jasper Street and Alabama Ave. The Second Alarm was sounded bringing Engine 30 and Truck 17 to the fireground. Both units arrived in staging and were quickly put to work. Engine 30’s crew was assigned to back up the units working on division 3 in the fire building as the wagon picked up Engine 2 (RIT) line at the hydrant. Truck 17’s crew was assigned to relieve Truck 16 on the fire floor (Division 3). Division 3 supervisor (Chief Benson) put the crew to work opening up and extinguishing hot spots along with Engine 6. Both crews operated for just over an hour before returning to service.
