As the companies were enjoying the Redskins vs. Saints game,  the box was struck for an apartment fire at 514 Ridge Rd. SE.  30 Engine & 17 Truck were both first due on the assignment, and arrived to find a 3 story brick construction apartment building with smoke showing from side "C".  30 Engine stretched the 400' to apartment #111 on the ground floor as the crew from 17 Truck gained entry and prepared to search the occupancy.  As the outside team of 17 Truck vented the casement windows, they found the windows were boarded up on the inside with plywood.  Once the wood was removed, the smoldering fire flared up and the its location was quickly found.  A search of the apartment itself proved negative; and the rest of the occupants of the building self-evacuated.  A quick knock on the fire by 30 Engine and the the assignment was reduced to 1+1 by the 2nd BFC.  Units were back in service within an hour.  Unfortunately, the Redskins still lost.
