At 0232 hrs units with the 2nd Battalion Fire Chief were alerted for a report of fire coming from the rear of a house near 62nd and Clay Street NE. Engines 30 and 27 along with Truck Company 17 arrived in the area with a strong odor of smoke. After a brief search Engine 30 went on the scene with a corrected address of 317 60th St. NE., finding a 2 story single family wood frame home with fire showing from division 1 of side D-Delta. Engine 30 advanced a 200ft 1 ½” preconnect handline to the front porch as the Truck 17 interior team forced entry. The Truck 17 outside team went to work throwing ground ladders and horizontally ventilating as quickly as possible to assist the aggressive engine company attack. Truck 17 roof team worked with the team from Truck 13 to open up the roof. Truck 17 interior team initiated a rapid primary search which was completed by Rescue Company 3 with negative results. The outside teams of both trucks removed all windows and bars from the home to allow for rapid egress for interior firefighters if needed, controlling utilities as they went. Interior crews found fire on the first and second floors and effectively knocked it down with lines on both floors. Truck 17 opened up the first floor as 13 Truck handled the second. After the fire was knocked down the assignment was scaled back to 2 Engines and 2 Trucks to assist with overhaul and investigation efforts. Units operated for just over 2 hours before returning to service.
